“They took all the villains” Golf pro Harry Higgs reveals how LIV’s sweep for star players has caused massive loss to PGA

The antagonism with LIV Golf is at an all-time high among the PGA pros. The rebel golf circuit has signed several star players from PGA, including Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. However, many PGA players, including Tiger Woods, are pretty unhappy with the recent developments at LIV Golf.

One of the famous golf pros, Harry Higgs, has expressed his dissatisfaction with players defecting to LIV. He thinks that PGA Tour is incomplete without these players. And no, he did not say this in a good sense. He has compared these players to villains!

According to him, PGA misses the drama and action that the tour used to witness before LIV golf. The schism between the two golf circuits has cost golf some exclusive and heated media stories to report on. Here is what Higgs has to say about defectors to LIV golf.

It is now well understood that the golf community stands on two sides- one in support of the LIV players and one against. What’s more interesting is that the powerful individuals in the field of golf are all against this rebel circuit, led by Greg Norman. Golf pro Harry Higgs has some different sets of thoughts on this matter. While he does see LIV Golf in an antagonistic way, he does miss the players who have defected to the new circuit.

“We joke back and forth, they [LIV] took all the a**holes”, says Higgs in an interview with the Golf Week. He further adds, “They took all the villains. And that’s a problem.”

Sure Higgs does miss the media stories and drama that surround the news headlines related to golf. He feels that some player who have now left for LIV were the sole contention for drama and some action in PGA. Higgs says,

“They took some of our best players, too. But those who have left haven’t put this in a spot where it’s like, oh, sh*t, you know, all the great players are gone and playing somewhere else. That’s not the case. But they took some of the ones who would have stories written about them maybe in a negative light with kind of negative connotations. And OK, that’s kind of a driving force for people to read your story or for people to turn their television on. I struggle with this.”

Higgs further speaks about the great schism which has been drawn with the formation LIV. He is of the same opinion as most in PGA, i.e., he does not agree with players switching sides. While he does not blame them for joining LIV, he does say that this sudden shift is somewhat bringing bad fame to the PGA.

Speaking of more players having their stories being covered by media, he says, “Yes, freaking 98 percent of the guys out on Tour are pretty boring. Or it seems that way. But they’re really not. They certainly go dive into their boring hole where they’re not going to say any bad things about anybody when the camera goes on, or when somebody has a microphone in their hand. They’re just not going to do it because it won’t serve them. So it is certainly a commitment from even us players to be more open, and you know, let more people in to tell our stories.”

This is the second time when Harry Higgs has shown his displeasure about the image in which PGA is being portrayed. He believes that more players need to be given chance and their stories need to be heard. He wants the golfing community to overcome from the Woods-Mickelson hangover and focus on the new stalwarts of golf.
