In recent weeks, veteran golfer Phil Mickelson has become the main talking point in the world of golf. He has been involved in some serious debate with golf channel analyst Brandel Chamblee over the existence of the LIV Golf League. The Saudi-backed-tour has been heavily slammed by Chamblee and his colleague Eamon Lynch for their political ties with the Middle East country.

During one of the Twitter spat, he claimed that the duo need some professional help over their obsession with him and his league. A user then quickly pointed out to Mickelson about his gambling addiction and debts. The golfer quickly dismissed the topic and claimed that he had made it (rich). Fellow golfer Colt Knost then got involved in the scene and asked him whether he (Knost) can have his money back.

Mickelson is one of the most renowned golfers around the world. However, his addiction to gambling has been no secret to the world. Despite making millions through championships triumphs, he is reported to have slipped into debt due to this unhealthy addiction. His decision to join the LIV league is said to be because of this reason. According to reports from Spanish outlet Marca, Mickelson’s net worth is reported to be around $450 million. However, in the post, he claimed that he is close to being a billionaire.

The question of whether Phil Mickelson actually owes some amount of money to Colt Knost is unclear. As per several users on Twitter, the duo are alleged to have made a bet of $10,000, which Mickelson lost. This is, however, not the first time the duo has got involved in a verbal war on the micro-blogging site.

The golfers seemed to be involved in the dispute regarding the Official World Golf Ranking points (OWGR). Since the playing format is different in LIV, the most important being no-cut, LIV players do not receive these points. As a result of this action, LIV golfers, despite winning tournaments, do not see their official world rank go up.

The conversation between the duo got heated up to the point where Knost claimed that LIV players knew about the consequences they face. However, Mickelson was not ready to back down and urged the OWGR to adjust to the LIV. The league’s CEO Greg Norman has also filed an application in this regard.

The 51-year-old golf veteran has later admitted that he is embarrassed of himself for his gambling addiction. He informed that he started taking therapy sessions and has since come a long way. Mickelson was reported to have suffered a loss of around $40 million between 2010-2014.
