Another 7 figure cheque as LIV Golf put their money right where their mouth was, Dustin Johnson bags 35$ Million
Dustin Johnson, 4Aces GC
Dustin Johnson was offered a staggering $100 million to ditch the PGA Tour in favor of the rebel golf circuit – LIV Golf. Whether it was a good decision or not is hard to say with LIV still fighting battles on all fronts for its existence. But Johnson would be quite happy with the inaugural season payout as he finishes with a win at the LIV team event final.
LIV Golf’s existence and survival were put under the scanner with its inception, however, one thing that wasn’t ever questioned was its ability to pay up the big bucks which it promised to players joining the rebel circuit or the ones it signed from the PGA Tour offering huge signing bonuses among other incentives. LIV’s financial might is backed by the Saudi Arabia PIF, which technically is their sovereign fund.
Dustin’s team – 4Aces GC comprising Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch, and Pat Perez made it to the podium on Sunday for winning the team event at the Trump Doral National in Miami. The $16 million prize was split four ways with Dustin finishing his inaugural season on LIV Golf Circuit with a mind-boggling $35,637,767 payout.
There’s more money for Dustin Johnson from where it all came from
The money just keeps on flowing for the American as apart from his season winning which in itself is humongous, Dustin Johnson is yet to receive his $100 million signing bonus for switching his allegiance to LIV Golf. Dustin provided some relief to his team when he set up a simple birdie on the 370-yard par-4 16th with Patrick Reed’s birdie putting in the final screws on Cameron Smith and his team Punch GC as they won by one shot.
Each player shooting 70 with Gooch (71), a combined shot of 7-under 281 proved to be enough for Johnson’s 4Aces as Cameron Smith hoping for a miracle couldn’t deliver at crucial moments. “I feel unbelievable,” Perez said. Reed felt a sigh of relief as his birdie gave Johnson a one-shot lead, thus helping him to settle his nerves.
Johnson’s humongous earnings after the team event were more than any other player on the circuit in LIV’s debut season. LIV promised $255 million in cash prizes and incentives, with Johnson’s earnings taking almost 15% of the whole. LIV also offered huge signing bonuses to the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau.
