Greg Norman slaps Rory McIlroy with hypocrisy tag for criticising LIV Golf
Rory McIlroy & Greg Norman
Former World Number 1, Rory McIlroy was slammed by LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman after Northern Ireland has been consistently speaking and criticizing the Saudi-backed league.
Norman, who himself is a former PGA Tour golfer, called McIlroy a hypocrite after his persistent criticism against the LIV Golf. There has never been a question mark over McIlroy’s loyalty towards the PGA Tour, but the Holywood-born golfer himself in the past had plans to start a new golfing league along with legendary golfer Tiger Woods.
Norman said Rory can do whatever he wants to
Norman talking to the celebrity journalist Piers Morgan on Monday has now slammed the former World No.1 golfing star stating that he should not be concerned about individual choices made by golfers who have chosen LIV Golf over the PGA Tour.
“Well, my message is, Rory, you’re an independent contractor. You have the right to make your decision. Remember, Rory started on the European tour. Then Rory decided to leave the European tour to go play where all the money is, where I went to play, to the PGA Tour.”
“Why did we do that, Piers? We did that because that was the only option we had as players. We had to go sign on to their rules and regulations. We couldn’t even negotiate their rules and regulations so we had to do the only thing we could possibly do – play the Tour. What we’ve done now is give them options.”
“Rory, happy days, he can do what he wants to do. If he’s comfortable over there doing that, he’s an independent contractor, he can. If Rory wants to go to the Middle East and get appearance money to play in tournaments – happy days, go play in those Rory, that’s your choice.”
Last week, Norman was busy lobbying for the Saudi-backed league at the Capitol in Washington DC and was involved in a heated exchange with Republican Congress members. The politicians were concerned about the funding from Saudi Arabia and called the league propaganda.
