Chilean professional golfer Joaquin Niemann said he’s excited for The Masters in April, looking back at PGA Tour vs LIV Golf rivalry. Sparks of the upcoming battle started following the 2022 announcement that allowed LIV players to take the field on Masters.

Although LIV players almost gave up on playing the event, Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley patched the rift between golfers temporarily by the 2023 Masters announcement. Looking forward to taking the field, Niemann said it’d be fun to win against PGA players, taking their hatred as the motivating factor.

The 24-year-old stated, “I think it’s going to be more fun knowing that they hate us”. “Then go to the majors and beat them.” When asked if he’ll be taking the hatred as the motivating factor, he said, “yeah 100%”.

Following the rift created by LIV in 2022, players who jumped ship were mentally prepared for the repercussions like being unable to play in major events, and even OWGR ranking. Despite their fears, 18 LIV players including Joaquin Niemann were invited to the field in Masters.

When announced, Niemann stated that he was not surprised. The Masters is a major event that displays the competition between the top golfers of the world. It would have been dumb to leave PGA defectors due to that reason, according to Niemann

He further stated, “Between the Tour and the LIV Tour I think there’s a lot of players that they don’t like us or the decisions that we made; they don’t share the same thought about coming [to LIV] or not. But everyone came to their own decision and it’s going to be fun after everything they’ve been talking about it and just play for it.

We’re going to be feeling the different tours at the same time, playing for their tour,” Niemann said about what it’ll be like at Augusta National next week.” Likewise, Cameron Smith, Bubba Watson, and Patrick Reed had the same opinion as Niemann.

Bubba Watson even noted earlier, “I’m going to be honest, man”. “It’s only awkward in the media. Media is the only one that is pushing it. I have nothing against anybody.” Regardless, The Masters week will be a must-watch for golf fans as their favorite players will be facing off letting go of their LIV or PGA background.
