In an earth-shaking announcement on Friday, current World No.3 golfer Jon Rahm announced his move to LIV Golf. The Spaniard made his official exit from the PGA Tour and shook hands with Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf while completing this deal.

There had been various speculations regarding the move of Rahm to the Saudi-backed tour. During the early days of the tour, they had tried to sign him and offered him a contract that he turned down. However, things changed drastically since then and the reigning Masters champion is now heading to the 54-hole circuit.

When asked about the move, Rahm claimed that it was a difficult decision for him but acknowledged the money factor involved in it. He would later thank his peers including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy for their support throughout the years. Questions have also been raised as to what will have to his relationship with these two.

While the answer to that could take a while, McIlroy did mention that he respects him and will miss playing against him. Since the deal was announced, several big names in the golfing industry have reacted to this mega talking point. This move of Rahm though has not gone down well among fans who have slammed him for this move.

As the ongoing merger talks between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) go on, the fans are holding their breath to learn about the future of the sport. Speaking on the future of sport, it is looking brighter than ever for LIV Golf following the signing of Jon Rahm.

There had been talks that LIV Golf would not exist after the merger went through. However, CEO Greg Norman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan had backed the breakaway tour. Things are looking good for them as not only do they get Rahm, one of the top professionals from the PGA Tour, but they also get a new team as the Spanish star is expected to captain his own team.
