The drama between the LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour has been growing since its inception. However recently, the PGA Tour announced the creation of a new tour within their own tour that will bring the elite golfers of the world together to play 20 tournaments from 2023.

There will be Additional Elevated Games for 2023, which includes the elite players committing to at least 20 tour events. These Tour events include 12 new events, the Players Championship, four majors and any three PGA events. “Our top players are firmly behind the Tour,” said Monahan according to PGA Tour, “helping us deliver an unmatched product to our fans, who will be all but guaranteed to see the best players competing against each other in 20 events or more throughout the season.”

They are expected to have prize money purses of around $20 million at least. An Earnings Assurance Program will also guarantee all fully-exempt Tour members at least $500,000 per year. This obviously means big changes are coming for the PGA Tour, and Jordan Spieth believes LIV Golf is the catalyst.

“Well, I think certainly it’s impossible to not think that that was a catalyst for continuing to want to make sure that our, the players that we have on the PGA now stay on the PGA Tour,” Jordan Spieth said ahead of the 2022 Tour Championship. “Would this have gone that direction this soon? Maybe not, but to say that it wouldn’t have happened in general, I’m not sure,” he continued.

“But I think that that certainly has been a catalyst for looking at the product as a whole and figuring out how to make it the best it can possibly be and maximize the strength of fields at the biggest events,” said Spieth according to Golf Week, talking about the impact LIV Golf is having on the golf world.
