In an impressive performance throughout the whole tournament, Keegan Bradley came out as the winner of the Travelers Championship. By shooting six under 64, Bradley claimed his sixth PGA Tour victory. After the win, he was left emotional as his family watch him grab the win.
Bradley, a Vermont native, used to visit the event as a kid. A victory at this venue meant everything for him. He started off strongly on the final day but lost some track coming to the end. The 37-year-old would finish with a 2-under 68. This turned out to be just enough as Zac Blair and Brian Harman ran out of steam and finished tied for the runners-up spot.
This triumph became even more special for him after he finished second, four years ago at the same venue. At that time he was unable to overcome the obstacle in form of Chez Reavie at the TPC River Highlands. Talking to the press after the win, Bradley informed how it feels unbelievable to him.
“Feels unbelievable. I literally can’t believe it,” he said before adding how hard the day had been mentally. He later added that he will never forget this day for the rest of his life. He had been dominating the first three days of the tour and continued with similar intent on the final day.
His one-shot lead at the top increased after some great play from him and some poor play from Reavie. This win has also made one of the candidates for the upcoming Ryder Cup, the biennial tournament between the USA and Europe.
Twitter in celebratory mood as Keegan Bradley goes full circle
Winning a championship in any sport is no small feat. While it might not be as prestigious as some other events, the Travelers Championship has held its own ground. The tour is now a designated event, giving the players another chance to shine, usually after the US Open. After an impressive 2011 PGA Championship victory, Keegan Bradley other wins came into less popular tours.
However, this does not take away the credit he deserves. Despite almost stumbling at the end, Bradley played the whole event consistently. This enabled him to build a heavy lead which was difficult to overcome. Soon after his win, Twitter was spread with joy about this achievement, and here are a few reactions.
This season has turned out to be a good one for Bradley. In his 17 appearances, he now has two victories following his triumph at the Zozo Championship. He was also the runner-up in the Farmer Insurance Open and claimed top-10 finishes in four separate events.
The Travelers Championship win has bagged him $3.6 million, taking his total earning this season to around $8.5 million. With the FedEx Cup playoffs up to come, the chances of this amount increasing have risen up.
