The LIV Golf Series has made quite the headlines in the news recently, as the breakaway series seems to be attracting a lot of golfers. With Phil Mickelson being amongst the first, the ‘new and modern’ golf series was on the watchlist of several golf enthusiasts. However, things do not seem to be going the way of the LIV Series, as its hype seems to have died down by now.

A recent survey conducted about the popularity of LIV Series was underwhelming to say the least. According to golf.com, of 609 participants, only 16% of them said that they joined the inaugural LIV Series event. To add to the sting, less than half of “avid golf fans” said they were “very” or “somewhat” interested in watching LIV Golf. This number was even less when asked amongst general sports fans, with on 20% of them showing some interest.

Its not only bad news for the LIV Series but also for the LIV Golfers, who are facing a drop in popularity. Mickelson saw a 14-point drop in his popularity from September 2021 to June 2022, the largest drop of any player in Morning Consult’s polling. Mickelson saw the largest drop, while Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson also saw some decline. Bryson DeChambeau seemed to cruise steady however.

The PGA Tour on the other hand has seen a spike in favourability, with 85% of avid golf fans saying that they were interested in watching the PGA Tour and 77% of regular golf fans agreed. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, who remained with the PGA, also saw a spike in their popularity.
