LIV Golf threatens PGA Tour with TWO more defections ahead of 2023 season
The LIV Golf Series might bring on board 2 new golfers who are a part of the PGA Tour as the 2nd season of the series is set to begin.
LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour
The LIV Golf Series is not willing to give up in the uphill battle against the PGA Tour. As the Saudi backed series enters into its second season, the Tour has been forced to up its game. The prize purses for the PGA Tour have increased quite a lot, and the competition is only getting tougher.
On the other hand, LIV Players continue to suffer as they face sanctions and restrictions by other Tours as well as the OWGR board. However now, LIV Golf is looking to deliver a huge blow to the PGA Tour. There are rumoured to be two more defectors to the LIV Series. The LIV Golf series will have 14 events this year, beginning in Mexico.
All this will be happening while the anti-trust lawsuit is underway- a lawsuit that bars the players from competing on the PGA Tour while being LIV Golfers. However, the LIV Golf series refuses to get rid of its aggressive pursuit for players, and the effect of that is being seen as the second season starts.

LIV Golf Series might just be welcoming 2 new golfers on board after defection from the PGA Tour
Colombian Sebastian Munoz and Chilean Mito Pereira are rumoured to be the next golfers to make the switch to the LIV Series. They are expected to join Joaquin Niemann’s team, the Tourques. Both golfers are currently a part of the PGA Tour, and will give up their membership to play LIV Golf.
Munoz, although ranked 97th, has a PGA Win to his name. He has also finished in the Top 20 of the US Open and the Masters. Pereira on the other hand was a third place finisher at last year’s US Open, where he gave Will Zalatoris and Justin Thomas a tough fight. This defection comes just days ahead of Netflix’s new documentary “Full Swing”.
However, the PGA Tour is doing quite well in its own right. The 2023 Phoenix Open just came to an end, with Scottie Scheffler taking a glorious win and defending his title. He also grabbed the world no. 1 spot along the way. The next location on the list is the Genesis Invitational, where 23 of the top 25 golfers will be making an appearance.
Also making an appearance will be Tiger Woods. He will be making a comeback after an 8 month long break, after he missed the cut at St. Andrews. However, the LIV Series is also coming in strong with its second season, new golfers and new team- and it will certainly be exciting to see.
