“Unparalleled opportunity for the state”- LIV Golf to travel to Australia under turbulence
LIV Golf | Grange Golf Club
The LIV Golf and its series of controversies keep on running like weekly episodes of a TV Series. The Saudi PIF-backed golf circuit has been making waves throughout the year. It has been dealing with a series of accusations and lawsuits from all domains and with a political angle involve, LIV’s problems are not likely to go away very soon.
This time the dispute has taken place all the way over in Australia with politicians getting involved over Adelaide staging as a venue for a LIV event next year. Looks like Australia too will have its fair share of money involved as it indulges itself in the cash-rich albeit controversial golf league.
LIV CEO Greg Norman was present at the Adelaide Oval with an announcement that the Grange Course in the city’s heart will be Australia’s first-ever venue for an event sanctioned by the LIV Golf Circuit. Looks like LIV is expanding its foray and will not simply back down, much to the PGA Tour‘s agony.
Australia becomes the latest addition to LIV Golf’s controversial history
LIV’s intention to take the game of golf worldwide was very clear from the start, something the PGA Tour should have done way before with a significant increase in the number of events outside the U.S. and Europe. Australian politician Peter Malinauskas termed this opportunity as an “unparalleled opportunity for the state”.
Former Senator Rex Patrick believes that it’s a waste of public money. He states – “assist foreign leaders in washing away unconscionable acts such as the murdering of a journalist for doing his job”. Obviously, Patrick was referring to the brutal killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
LIV has made its bed and along with it several stars too including Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, etc. They have been repetitively accused of helping the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to “sports wash” their wrongdoings by offering humongous joining fees to players.
