The battle of the LIV Golf series has been a never ending one to say the least. Ever since its inception, the LIV Series has garnered constant backlash. The PGA Tour especially has been the first to nullify the series. Any defectors to the LIV Series have also been banned by the PGA Tour, and not allowed to play on any of the PGA events.
While the topic of playing on any tour is still up for debate, Matt Fitzpatrick certainly thinks that LIV Players should not be allowed back to the Tour. “I would not let people come back. I think that’s incredibly unfair. I’d be staggered if they did allow them.” This controversy comes after the fact that the LIV Series bought many of their current players with very high contracts.
“You cant have your cake and eat it too,” said Fitzpatrick very aptly. “Don’t get me wrong, they could turn around and say ‘you could play LIV also if you want.’ But I don’t want to do that. I want to stay here and play the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour,” said Fitzpatrick, talking about how he would rather remain loyal to the Tours.
Matt Fitzpatrick might not want LIV Golfers on the PGA Tour, but looks forward to seeing them at the Ryder Cup

“I think if you spoke to Tiger Woods, he too would have the same stance on it,” said the golfer. “You’ve left a tour that the top players have been on for so long and done so well. And now you’ve left for something you think it better, but it may not be.” The LIV Golf series, although new and exciting is still in its early stages. One cannot tell how successful it will be just as of yet.
Talking about the eligibility of the LIV Golfers to play on the Ryder Cup, Fitzpatrick said, “The Ryder cup is a completely different case from the PGA Tour. For me, I would want the 12 best golfers on my team, hopefully I’m one of those. The goal should be to try and win.” The Ryder Cup dilemma is one that is yet to be sorted out. It has left people wondering what would happen.
However, the recent 2024 regulation changes announced by the PGA Tour has managed to raise a lot of eyebrows. From smaller fields to no-cut tournaments to bigger prize purses, the PGA Tour has now been accused of copying the LIV Series, which it very well might have.
Some golfers like Rory McIlroy and James Hahn have even admitted that the PAG Tour required a change. This much needed change came because of the LIV Golf series. However, now how these changes will actually be implemented and will work all depends on the PGA Tour and how drastically it wants to change the face of the Tour.
