2023 is already knocking at our doors, and it’s excitedly bringing over the Majors competition starting in April. This time around all players including PGA and LIV will be able to participate according to Fred Ridley.

Recently former Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley talked about Tiger Woods with Express Sports. He expressed on his opinion on how much the GOAT will be able to participate in the upcoming tournament. This year was quite eventful for Woods, as he stated it’s one of his best years yet.

According to Paul, Woods’, “biggest challenge” in 2023 would be his trouble in walking. After his 2021 accident, a lot changed on the greens. Despite having plantar fasciitis he participated in The Match with Rory McIory and later in PNC Championship with his son Charlie.

During PNC Championship he told reporters that playing with Charlie is more important than resting his foot. Tiger Woods knows very well that this will slow down his recovery process as he admitted that the 2023 schedule is still undecided. He’ll appear in all Major tournaments, but will that be enough?

As per McGinley, appearing only on Majors will not be enough for the GOAT.  He stated, “You can’t just turn up four weeks of the year and hit the ground running competitively so that’s his biggest challenge. But by all accounts his golf is very good and it’s a shame that he can’t play more golf.”

“Tiger Woods, he’s not the norm we know that and you’re never gonna discount him fully from anything but the odds are stacked against him. If he’s not able to physically play some PGA Tour events in between the majors, it’s very difficult to just peak at the majors.”

Since his rehab started, Woods had to shrink his busy schedule limiting it to only Majors, though this strategy failed to succeed earlier. This year he had to withdraw from the US Open Championship due to body problems.

The 2019 Masters the turning point not only for Woods but also for the golf world. His astonishing performance changed the game in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, that stride has fallen short in the following years. Even this year in The Match and PNC, he had to use carts to travel across the field.

McGinley told Express Sports, “By all accounts, I think he’s done brilliant rehab on his golf game. His ball speed is up in the 180s, which is top 10 per cent on tour, and his golf by all accounts is very good.”

“But obviously the issue is walking and when you’re unable to walk, you’re unable to play a lot of tournaments and it’s very hard to just turn up at majors and hit the ground running competitively when you haven’t got a body of work in terms of playing week-to-week on the PGA tour.”
