The controversy between the LIV Golf series and the PGA Tour is seeing no end anytime soon. As the controversy scales new heights, facts about both the tours are spilling over the brim- most of them not the most positive as expected of such high level organisations.

The PGA Tour, which holds majority stake in the world of golf, has long been known to have “generated substantial charitable contributions in the communities where the tour has played”. That in fact is not the case. Most of the PGA’s contributions are actually raised and dispersed amongst communities to oversee tournaments that the PGA Tour sponsors.

For example, the Thunderbirds Charities undertook a tournament called the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Aside from raising $4 million and being a platform for fundraising, the Tour doesn’t really have much to do with the charitable efforts.

PGA Tour’s Charity events are not as straightforward as you might think they are

How Much does a PGA Tour caddie earn? Pro Caddy Salary

The Tour donated only 3%, of $42.7 million of its humongous $1.47 billion revenue last year. While the Tour takes credit for donating more that $190 million for charity, the wildly inflated number seems to be inaccurate considering that much of that number is also put in by local charities.

The local charities aren’t exactly living up to their name either. According to reports, these sources seem to give on 16% of their raised money to charities, while the other money goes in promotions and prizes. With this conundrum high on the public’s radar, how easy is it for us to dismiss the fact that money is always going to be a sensitive issue, regardless of organisation.
