PGA Tour’s Jon Rahm rises above the rest, congratulates LIV Golf winner Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra

It is the first time that a member of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour has publicly congratulated a player who has won an event on the controversial LIV Golf Tour. Jon Rahm congratulated young Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra for his win at LIV Golf’s event in Bangkok at Stonehill.

Rahm himself was on fire at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, winning the Open de Espana by as many as six strokes with a 9-under par final round. Lopez-Chacarra, on the other hand, won his first professional title in his fifth start on Sunday.

Despite the fact that Chacarra won a LIV Golf event, Rahm’s victory speech surprised everyone, as the 27-year-old golfer congratulated his fellow countryman.

“Although some people want to make us look at them [LIV Golf] as the enemy, he is just a 22-year-old guy winning against some of the best players in the world. Congratulations if you see this Eugenio,” Rahm said.

As the debate is also heating up about whether the LIV Golfers will be allowed to take part in the Ryder Cup in Rome many have been completely against the idea.

However, Rahm believes that LIV Golfers have the right to compete in the Ryder Cup, despite previously declining an offer from the rich league which is backed by money from Saudi Arabia.

“The Ryder Cup is not the PGA Tour and European Tour against LIV – it’s Europe versus the US, period”. Rahm told exclusively to yahoo.sports. “The best of each against the other, and for me the Ryder Cup is above all. I wish they could play but it doesn’t look good”.

Rahm also hoped Sergio Garcia, his colleague, could participate in Rome. Inspite of his eligibility, Garcia opted not to attend the Ryder Cup and ruled himself out.

“It is a complicated situation for Sergio,” Rahm said. “I understand that he decides not to play, because the last time he played a tournament on the European circuit he was not received very well, although I imagine it would be different in Mallorca. In any case, there are still days left and you can still sign up”.
