Phil Mickelson as it turns out has taken his name back from the anti-trust lawsuit signed by LIV against the PGA Tour on august 3. Mickelson on Tuesday filed a voluntary dismissal in the federal court followed by which Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Ian Poulter have also pulled out. “Now that LIV is involved, it’s not necessary for me to be involved.” The 52-year-old told.

“The only reason for me to stay in is damages, which I don’t really want or need anything. I do think it’s important that the players have the right to play when and where they want, when and where they qualify for. And now that LIV is a part of it, that will be accomplished if and when they win.’’ Phil Mickelson added.

Before them, Carlos Ortiz, Abraham Ancer, Jason Kokrak, and Pat Perez had already withdrawn without any clear explanation. And with this, the suit which originally had 11 players now only has 3 left namely Matt Jones, Peter Uihlein, and Bryson DeChambeau.

The lawsuit was filed demanding an opportunity to play on the PGA Tour in the future by the players. The trial is scheduled to be held in January 2024. Mickelson has continually argued that professional golfers are free agents who should be allowed to play where ever they see fit.

Earlier, this month LIV CEO Greg Norman visited the US Congressmen to present his case which wasn’t welcomed with open arms. Phil Mickelson has won 45 events on the PGA Tour, including six major championships: three Masters titles (2004, 2006, 2010), two PGA Championships (2005, 2021),[5] and one Open Championship (2013)
