Reigning Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler hilariously jokes about having ‘SEPARATE’ plans for LIV golfer Bubba Watson

Reigning Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler hilariously jokes about having ‘SEPARATE’ plans for LIV golfer Bubba Watson

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters 2022 champion, is responsible for hosting the annual Masters Champions Dinner this time. This tradition is ongoing in golf, where the reigning winner of the Green Jacket hosts all the previous Masters champions for dinner. The host gets to choose his menu and makes a speech. This annual dinner is hosted on Tuesday night of the tournament week.

In December, the Augusta National stirred the golf community by announcing LIV golfers as eligible to play the Masters. This would mean an awkward and unusual dinner between members of both factions during Scheffler’s grand event.

The PGA and LIV Golf are not on the best terms. Often, the PGA players have taken a dig at the LIV players. There are several outspoken critics of LIV, including big names such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. It would be awkward for them to share the table with LIV defectors like Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson.

Scottie Scheffler also took his chance to dig at LIV players and trolled Bubba Watson with his recent statement. Although his statement was purely out of zest, it does not diminish how LIV players are seen as outlaws by their PGA counterparts.

The question about LIV players appearing with their PGA counterparts has become taboo for the golf community. The Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund funds the rebel golf circuit, which is currently eager to get hold of star names from the sport. However, PGA players defecting to LIV are sanctioned and banned from all PGA-authorized events and tournaments.

When asked about the Masters Champions Dinner, former World No. 1 and US Open Champion Jon Rahm says,

“I think the Masters Champions Dinner’s going to be a little tense compared to how its been in the past. So I keep thinking about it because I wish I could be there and just be able to see how things work out. Too bad the US Open doesn’t have one of those.”

With these hilarious comments from Rahm, even Scheffler was asked about his preparation for the big night with LIV and PGA golfers. To this, he had a response which was an epic troll on LIV golfer Bubba Watson. His response was,

“I haven’t met many of the LIV guys. I saw Bubba [Watson] on vacation this year, and I told him that I was just going to have a separate table for him in the corner by himself ”

He later did clarify that this response was purely out of zest. Scheffler’s response had the media and audience rolling in laughter. However, he has also expressed concern about the schism between golf circuits impacting the integrity of the game. He says,

“In the world of golf, I think it’s definitely a little sad what’s happening. It’s kind of weird this week. I get to my locker, and my locker’s next to Cam Smith’s locker because he’s a past champ here, and he’s not here.”

While the difference in this professional sphere of golf remains, golf fans and Scottie Scheffler hope they can forget their differences and have a fun meal together.
