The 2023 Ryder Cup is now underway. The first day of action between Team USA and Team Europe saw the hosts blow away their opponents. The Europeans ended the day with a five-point lead thanks to strong performances from everyone involved. Shane Lowry, a member of their squad has claimed that he “lost it” during the early plays of the day.
During the foursomes matches, Team Europe got off to a perfect start as Viktor Hovland got things going. The 25-year-old Norwegian is in the form of his life at the moment. He along with his playing partner Ludvig Aberg started the fireworks early. Hovland would also go on to celebrate widely which even got Lowry excited.
While Hovland was obviously fired up, his Irish teammate was unable to control his emotions. He was seen jumping up and down in celebrations at the sidelines while celebrating. He would later admit that seeing the FedEx Cup champion tee off saw him lose some of it and get pumped up.
“I stood on the first tee trying to stay calm, and I’m watching Viktor on the big screen and he chipped in, and I lost it,” he said. This would somehow inspire the Irishman for his performance. He would team up with Sepp Straka and go on to defeat Max Homa and Brian Harman 4&3. Check out how he reacted from the tweet below.

Shane Lowry praises the Ryder Cup tournament and claims it brings out the best in him
One of the dreams of every professional player is to represent their nation and make them proud. Golf gives the players this chance at international events like the Ryder Cup. Irishman Shane Lowry has expressed his pleasure in playing in this event and called it a special tournament that brings out the best in him.
Lowry helped his side along with Sepp Straka to continue their domination at the greens. Their victory at the foursomes match gave the hosts a commanding lead. His performance at the greens and his wild celebrations regarding Viktor Hovland’s chip have become the talking points in the golf community. “That’s what the Ryder Cup does to me. It’s a very special tournament,” he said.
While Team Europe played with the swagger they were unexpected, their opposition had an off day. Zach Johnson, captain of Team USA claimed they were hit by an illness, which caused such a poor performance.
Lowry and his teammates would be hoping they can continue to pull off similar plays on Day Two. A strong display on Saturday could very well see them wrap up the tournament and claim back the golden trophy. Can Team USA complete a miraculous comeback or will Team Europe continue to stun the world will be interesting to witness.
