The sport of golf is complex compared to other professional sports. One of the major features of this game is that a player does not have to carry his bags and clubs personally. A caddie does that job for the player. Having a good caddie is as important as having a good health. The world of golf was left in shock when professional caddie, Joe LaCava announced his split with Tiger Woods.

The duo have been together for twelve years. According to reports from Golf Channel, LaCava will now carry the bags of Patrick Cantlay. He will replace Matt Minister who was with the world number 4 since 2017. He will begin this tenure at the Wells Fargo Championships this year and will likely stick with Cantlay for some time.

The reason for this split could be the injuries Woods has suffered in recent times. Woods who is considered by many as the greatest of all time, has endured one of the most toughest phases of his career recently. Ever since his car accident in 2021, he has been spotted struggling. He was also forced to withdraw his name from the Augusta Masters this year.

He has since underwent the subtalar fusion surgery. For the unverse, in this surgery doctors turn two bones and a joint below the ankle into a bigger bone. As a result of this, the movement below the right ankle gets narrowed. This surgery and its recovery phase could see Woods miss the remainder of the PGA Tour 2022-23 season.

The development of Joe LaCava and Tiger Woods going their separate ways has come as a shock to many golf fans around the world. It has been reported that Woods allowed LaCava for this switch and was happy for him. In their time together, the duo have celebrated plenty of success including the victory at Masters in the year of 2019.

LaCava will now join Patrick Cantlay. The golfer has many times been slammed for his slow pace of play. Cantlay was trolled heavily on social media during the RBC Heritage despite managing a hole-in-one.

Before pairing with Woods as his caddie, LaCava spent two decades serving Fred Couples. He joined Woods in 2011 after the latter split with his former caddie, Steve Williams. Cantlay right now is in the midst of a season which has seen him achieve six top-ten finishes. However he is still searching for that one victory. Perhaps the joining of LaCava will be bring him some luck to finally bag the top prize.
