The Augusta Champions Dinner might be an awkward one for Tiger Woods and other PGA Tour players, as they will meet with LIV Golfers.

Tiger Woods is gearing up for a rather awkward weekend soon. The LIV Golf Series has caused its fair share of controversy since its inception. The uphill battle for the Saudi backed series finds no end, even as it jumps into its second season. Tension runs high amongst golfers as the world is split in 2- those that remained loyal with the PGA Tour and those who defected to the LIV Series.

The upcoming Champions Dinner for Augusta Nationals will be an awkward encounter between the two worlds. “The champions dinner is going to be obviously something that’s talked about,” Woods said, with the main point of the dinner being to celebrate Scottie Scheffler’s victory. “We need to honour Scottie [Scheffler, the 2022 champion].”

The delicate situation needs to be put aside, especially for the tradition that Augusta carries. “Scottie’s the winner, it’s his dinner. So making sure that Scottie gets honoured correctly but also realising the nature of what has transpired and the people that have left, just where our situations are either legally, emotionally, there’s a lot there,” said Woods.

Talking about how Woods will interact with the LIV Golf players, one can only guess how it’ll go. “I don’t know what that reaction’s going to be. I know that some of our friendships have certainly taken a different path, but we’ll see when all that transpires.” However, it is still a couple of weeks away and can be thought about later.

For now, his attention has been shifted to the Genesis Invitational, which is just a few days away. The competition is bound to be tough, with 23 of the top 25 golfers in the world making an appearance. World no. 1 Scottie Scheffler is coming off an all time high from winning the Phoenix Open.

Woods too, is making an appearance at the Genesis Invitational, after an 8 month long break. Woods is ready to be back in action, after a long time. When asked about what he feels about being back on course, Woods said, “I’ve got to pick and choose what I’m going to be playing in. It will be very limited. So I’ll put all my energy into those events.”

“I’m excited to go out there and compete and play with these guys. I would not have put myself out here if I didn’t think I could beat these guys and win the event.” Tiger Woods’ mentality is incomparable, and even though he hasn’t competed for a long time, he is still at an extremely high level of play.
