Tiger Woods “pips” Rory Mcllroy in PIP even though the golfer raked in $40 million this PGA season

Tiger Woods is still winning awards even though he isn’t playing as much as he used to. Tiger, who is currently battling with his continuous injury issues, only played nine rounds in 2022 that included the Masters. Still, he managed to win the Player Impact program for a successive second year, if we are to believe star golfer Rory Mcllroy.
PIP or the Player Impact Program is an estimation of a player’s admiration and fan following and the metrics are established on the basis of media mentions and broadcast outreach. The first version of the program was executed last year. Rory Mcllroy had to make way with the second position.
“Hey, I gave him a pretty good run,” Mcllroy stated. Rory was spotted around town where he was to compete in the BMW Championship. Although, he just made his presence felt in a player-only meeting which concerned the PGA Tour’s alteration in its schedule.
Doesn’t matter if Rory played or earned more, G.O.A.T Tiger Woods remains more influential

The World No. 1 enjoyed a rather profitable year himself. With a hat-trick of FedEx Cup victories along with a couple more and add to it the No. 1 in men’s golf ranking, he was certainly one of the most influential players on the tour. Rory also had his voice present and heard in the never-ending PGA Tour vs LIV Golf debate, backing PGA all the way.
Rory Mcllroy also made huge money throughout the year but still fell short of the G.O.A.T Tiger Woods. If his “good run” comment at the start has some valuation then with the extended PIP Program, Rory raked in around $12 million. Add to it the bonus cash and Mcllroy’s total would be rounded off at around $40 million. Now, that simply is just too much money for his pleasures.
As per PIP’s explanation, the star players have to play a minimum of 11 out of 12 elevated tournaments that too excluding the Players Championship, four majors, and three other events sanctioned by the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods who is currently reported to play in his own Hero World Challenge that provides assistance to his foundation has a long way to go if he has to abide by the new norms.
