The recent controversy between the LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour has seen golfers from all around the world getting involved. A recent exchange between Shane Lowry and Lee Westwood is the perfect example of how the two tours have caused a rift amongst the golf world.

The PGA Tour recently announced a new ‘tour within a tour’ that brings together the elite golfers of the Tour together more often. This Elevated Series will consist of 12 events, which the golfers have committed to along with 3 PGA Tour events, the Players Championship and 4 Majors- bringing the total number of tournaments being played by them in the year to 20.

Westwood, like a few others, was critical of the PGA Tour, saying that they had completely copied the LIV Series. “I laugh at what the PGA Tour players have come up with,” he said. “It’s just a copy of what LIV is doing. There are a lot of hypocrites out there. They all say LIV is ‘not competitive.’ They all point at the no-cut aspect of LIV and the short fields,” said Westwood talking about the new series the PGA Tour has set out to create.

Shane Lowry’s quick emoji reply about Lee Westwood garners quite the reactions on Twitter

On hearing about Lee Westwood’s comments, Lowry had just a one emoji reply that a lot of people seemed to agree with. “?” was all that Lowry said, and many people seemed to agree with his sentiments- as the comment got over 1,700 likes. Twitter too, seemed to join in and comment.

“Now, funnily enough, they are proposing 20 events that look a lot like LIV. Hopefully, at some point they will all choke on their words. And hopefully, they will be held to account as we were in the early days,” said Westwood, adding to his earlier comments.
