“HYPOCRISY”: Lee Westwood says the PGA Tour is just ‘copycats’ of LIV Golf amidst new tour announcement

The PGA Tour and the LIV Series have been going at it since the inception of the latter. The Saudi backed LIV Series has caused a lot of waves in the world of golf. However, in retaliation, that PGA Tour has now decided to make its own changes to the future of pro golf. The Tour recently announced a new series that brings some of the most elite golfers in the world closer more often.

The PGA has announced a series that will have top players commit to playing 20 tournaments a year- including 12 of these events, 3 PGA Tour events, 4 majors and the Players Championship. The imminent changes in the organisation are a much awaited teaser into the future of what pro golf might look like. However, these changes are also being looked at parallel to LIV Golf, and many people think the PGA Tour is just following suit.

When Lee Westwood joined the LIV Golf Series, he was honest about that fact that he wanted to play less in the upcoming year considering his age. Even after looking at the Senior Pro Schedule Westwood decided that LIV Series was the best for him. “I’ve given up my PGA Tour card. There was no way I could ever play in all the events required to keep it,” said Westwood according to Golf Digest.

“I laugh at what the PGA Tour players have come up with,” he said. “It’s just a copy of what LIV is doing. There are a lot of hypocrites out there. They all say LIV is ‘not competitive.’ They all point at the no-cut aspect of LIV and the short fields,” said Westwood talking about the new series the PGA Tour has set out to create.

“Now, funnily enough, they are proposing 20 events that look a lot like LIV. Hopefully, at some point they will all choke on their words. And hopefully, they will be held to account as we were in the early days,” concluded Westwood, claiming that the LIV Golf Series is now being followed on its ideation by the PGA Tour.
