The relationship between LIV Golf and former President Donald Trump came under the scrutiny of the US Department of Justice. The New York Times reported that the investigation focused on sensitive documents that Trump had taken from the White House and brought to his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
The department is looking into whether or not Trump was trying to hide these documents and who may have had access to them. The investigation has since expanded to include LIV Golf, a Saudi-sponsored professional golf club that plays at some of Trump’s golf courses.
The investigation has raised concerns about the nature of Trump’s relationship with LIV Golf and whether those connections have had any effect on his family’s company.
With plans to visit three additional sites this year, the enterprise, which has financial support from a branch of the Saudi Arabian government, staged events at two Trump-owned properties in 2022. There are other investigations taking place in the golf business at the moment, including the DOJ’s inquiry into LIV Golf.

LIV Golf under DOJ investigation
LIV Golf‘s DOJ investigation centers around former President Trump’s ties to the family business. The Department of Justice has issued a subpoena for documents pertaining to the interactions between former US President Donald Trump and LIV Golf. This company organized golf tournaments at two of his properties in 2022.
The DOJ is investigating Trump’s family business. While it is unclear how the LIV Golf relationship relates to this broader investigation, the fact that LIV Golf is under scrutiny suggests that certain elements of Trump’s business dealings are being examined.
According to Golf Digest, the DOJ investigation of LIV Golf is part of a broader inquiry into the practices affecting the golf industry. Last July, the PGA Tour was reportedly involved in a DOJ probe, with Augusta National, the USGA, and the PGA of America later added to the investigation.
The Justice Department was criticized by members of Congress who questioned why the Justice Department was involved.
Former president Donald Trump’s involvement with the project is under investigation by the DOJ because of LIV Golf’s connections to the Trump family company. As the probe continues, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on Trump’s family business and the broader golf industry.
Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that the DOJ is taking a closer look at the industry and is determined to root out any potential anticompetitive behavior. As LIV Golf returns next week for an event outside of Tulsa, all eyes will be on the venture and its potential impact on the industry.
