Novak Djokovic‘s ex-coach and former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic, has strongly defended Jannik Sinner amid his ongoing doping scandal. The Croatian hopes that WADA will show some leniency toward the World No. 1 and avoid damaging his career.
Sinner’s doping case is back under investigation after WADA’s announcement last month. The Italian initially tested positive twice for a banned substance in March but was cleared by WADA at the time. Now, with the investigation reopened, Ivanisevic emphasizes that protecting Sinner’s career should be a top priority.
Sinner has enjoyed the best season of his career, winning two Grand Slam titles and three Masters 1000 trophies. Thanks to his consistent performance on all surfaces, the Italian will finish the year as the World No. 1.
However, this doping controversy casts a shadow over his impressive achievements. Sinner has faced significant criticism from some ATP players, most notably Nick Kyrgios.
Jannik Sinner gets a grand reception in Turin ahead of the ATP Finals
Jannik Sinner arrived in Turin for the ATP Finals to loud cheers from his fans. They warmly welcomed him, shouting his name and applauding as he made his entrance. The crowd then sang the famous football song, “Ole Ole Ole we are the champions,” in his honor. Sinner smiled, waved, and acknowledged the fans as they joyfully sang, “Ole Ole Ole Sinner.”
The Italian star seemed thrilled with the warm reception. He hasn’t played on the ATP Tour since winning the Shanghai Masters 1000 title at the end of September. This was the perfect homecoming for him. Just like last year, Sinner will receive strong support and loud cheers from his fans during the ATP Finals 2024.

Last season, Sinner finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic, with the crowd fully behind him, cheering him on with victorious chants. The ATP Finals is the last event of the season on the ATP Tour, while the Davis Cup will be the final competitive tournament in tennis. Sinner is set to compete in both and recently had a well-deserved month-long break.
He withdrew from the Paris Masters due to a virus but looked healthy as he arrived in Turin. Sinner is determined to make history as the first Italian to win the ATP Finals title. This will be his third time playing in the prestigious event, and he is ready to make a strong impression.
