Leon Goretzka aims forward to the opportunity of pouring challenges up against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Goretzka have already faced Ronaldo on a couple of occasions when he was at Schalke. In 2014, Schalke lost both the games in the round of 16 tie.
However, the German would face Maestro Messi for the first time in the quarter finals of this season’s Champions League.
Goretzka understands that stopping Messi, who was instrumental in taking Barca past Napoli in last week’s last-16 second leg, would take a collective team effort.
Goretzka on facing Ronaldo and Messi told:
“After having played Cristiano Ronaldo several times, it’s nice to be able to play against another leading footballer of our decade.
“The only way to stop Messi is collectively. Everyone knows just how gifted he is, he is capable of finding many solutions also in tight situations. We will have to fight back as a team. If one player can actually take away his fun in the game, I don’t know. We just have to fight back as a team and try to play our game.”
In July of 2018, Goretzka officially joined Bayern from Schalke. Goretzka signed a four-year contract until June 2022 with the Bundesliga side.
“Back then I deliberately took a long time. I had a few options to stay with Schalke. I listened to everything and made a conscious decision in favour of Bayern. I have never regretted making this decision.”
Bayern Munich will take on Barcelona on 15th of August in the Champions League quarter finals.
