Cody Rhodes finally finished his story and defeated Roman Reigns to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Let’s just say it wasn’t an easy road for him after winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, as The Rock replaced him to face his cousin at WrestleMania XL. However, due to the fans’ revolt against the decision, Rhodes earned his spot again. While many believe that it was the right decision, Grayson Waller still felt otherwise.
Speaking with The Daily Star‘s Danny Stone, the duo known as A-Town Down Under, Austin Theory, and Grayson Waller talked about various things. During the conversation, the host highlighted the Aussie’s role in the series, ‘Young Rock’ and asked about his tag team partner’s interaction with him. First, he hilariously clarified that because the veteran was his boss now, he would only say positive things about him.
Waller also admitted that The Rock should’ve challenged Roman Reigns for the title at WrestleMania XL. He not only praised him as an athlete but also mentioned that he admired his work in the Hollywood industry. The one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions then hilariously concluded his statement by saying that the 51-year-old legend was the one who was signing their paychecks.
I really think he should have wrestled for the Championship at Wrestlemania. The Rock is the best, I love the Rock. He signs the paychecks!Grayson Waller on The Rock
Meanwhile, the duo became the WWE Tag Team Champions by snatching the belts from the ladder at WrestleMania XL. Since then, they have defended the titles against various tag teams at different shows. Only time will tell what transpires in the future, as teams like #DIY and The Street Profits have already set their eyes on the prize.
Grayson Waller revealed how his in-ring name came to be and talked about other options
For those unaware, the Aussie superstar’s real name is Matthew Farrelly, and he has even wrestled under the name Matty Wahlberg. In the same interview, he revealed the reason behind changing his name to Grayson Waller.
The 34-year-old star stated that, as a superstar, he had some say in his name. With that revelation, he took a shot at fans who complained about a change in a wrestler’s name. The Aussie star said that he wanted to keep Waller because it resembled Wahlberg, which reminded him of his roots.
Waller was something that I wanted, something close to Wahlberg to connect to my Australian indie roots. Then, there's a player in the NBA called Grayson Allen and I think he's an encapsulation of what Grayson Waller is. So at the time I felt like Grayson was a perfect fit for me here, and I think its worked quite well.Grayson Waller via The Daily Star
Meanwhile, Grayson chose his name entirely on his own. He mentioned that there was an NBA player named Grayson Allen who shared similar characteristics with him. Waller further added that he was very happy that the name worked out well for him.
