Fred Couples mocking LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has once again started a firestorm on social media. The 1992 Masters winner trolled ‘The Shark’ over buying secondary tickets to attend the event following his snub by Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley.

Norman was denied The Masters entry for a second consecutive year after Ridley noted that he wants the focus to remain in the game, not in any brewing PGA-LIV stuff. This year, ‘The Shark’ and his son Greg Norman Jr. surprised everyone at Augusta with their surprise attendance as fans and not an invitee.

Furthermore, Norman was reportedly denied from buying tickets through Augusta’s official ticketing sites and was forced to get a secondary ticket as a fan. Couples, known for his views on LIV, took to X to take a swipe at the LIV Golf CEO. He noted how the 13 LIV players were unable to help him out with a ticket, and even said, “Next year if you need one Shark let me know.”

Norman Jr. didn’t take too kindly to Fred Couples’ remark and dropped down a brief note on the situation. He hit back at the 64-year-old noting how “we beat you in 2008 at skills,” referencing that year’s PNC Championship. He further said,

It was never about getting a free ticket…He didn’t want a free ticket from anyone or bother any player with something like this.

Additionally, Norman Jr. explained how nice the crowd was at Augusta and they never came across anyone with a negative view. Taking an indirect swipe at Couples, he penned, “The majority of folks are not cold-hearted trolls like someone” and accused them of further dividing the game of golf.

Greg Norman and his son happy about positive message received from fans about LIV Golf

Despite the surprise visit to Augusta by Greg Norman and his son Norman Jr., the fans seemed to warmly welcome the LIV Golf CEO. Both of them confirmed how the crowd went up to them to congratulate them on what they were doing with the LIV Golf league.

Norman Jr. said that his dad wanted to be there to support the LIV players playing at The Masters this week. They were happy to receive positive comments from the crowd and even some security guards who were on the field.

Norman Jr. added that he wants to “put all the BS behind us” and move forward for the betterment of the game. The Saudi-backed league has received plenty of criticism over the years since 2021. However, the merger which is thought to bring a closure to the rift between PGA-LIV is yet to take place.
