Gunther and Ilja Dragunov have had one of the best rivalries in NXT history. They put on one of the best matches of the decade. There is also a lot of history to unravel between the two. Although fans cannot wait for these two to cross paths on the main roster, it appears that this face-off is going to take a lot of time.
WWE announced on the latest episode of Raw that Dragunov had suffered an injury. He is expected to be out of action for six to nine months. Upon hearing this announcement, Gunther called out his long-time rival on X for being weak and breaking apart.
This injury to Ilja Dragunov actually took place in a match against the Ring General for the World Heavyweight Championship. The two superstars have been facing each other lately on the house show circuit and had a match in Colombus on Sunday. Although the Mad Dragon was unsuccessful in becoming a world champion, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
Unfortunately, during the match, Dragunov tore his ACL. He is now expected to be out for the better part of a year. This is heartbreaking news for fans, as WWE was allegedly planning a match between these two superstars on the main roster, and their match-ups on house shows were just a dry run of what was yet to come.
World Heavyweight Champion Gunther talks about a potential feud against The Wyatt Sicks
When the Wyatt Sicks debuted on Raw, Gunther said that he did not like those styles of characters in professional wrestling. Thus, he would be averse to working with them. However, now that the group has finally wrapped up their feud against Chad Gable and American Made, fans are once again speculating a potential feud between the spooky faction and the World Heavyweight Champion.
While speaking to Metro, Gunther talked about the possibility of squaring up against The Wyatt Sicks. Sticking true to his character, the 37-year-old said that he would thrive in every scenario. It did not matter who he was paired up against. Furthermore, he believed that some of his best matches and promos were against people who were the complete opposite of him.
The World Heavyweight Champion has often been highly reserved and barely talks about what is going on in his mind. A feud against The Wyatt Sicks could be highly interesting. This would peel back the layers of his psychology and let fans know what goes on inside the Austrian’s mind.
