Harry Styles’ joyful reaction to England’s dramatic FIFA World Cup victory over DR Congo has gone viral after fans captured the moment at Wembley Stadium on July 1.

The singer was preparing to perform his Together, Together residency show at the London venue when England secured a 2-1 comeback win to advance to the World Cup round of 16. Fan videos shared on social media showed Styles celebrating the result with concertgoers inside the stadium.

In the footage, Styles appeared from one of Wembley Stadium’s entrances wearing a white long sleeve top, athletic shorts and white trainers. He was seen jumping up and down, pumping his fists and embracing two fans near the stage as England completed its comeback against DR Congo.

Videos filmed from multiple angles also showed the singer waving to fans seated above before heading backstage ahead of the concert. One fan captioned a video, “Harry celebrating England’s goal over DR Congo at Wembley Stadium before the show tonight!”

Another clip was shared with the caption, “More of Harry celebrating England’s goal against DR Congo while watching on the big screens at Wembley Stadium before the show tonight.”

Styles has publicly shown his interest in football before. According to Billboard, he attended Luton Town’s match against Manchester United in February 2014.

England’s World Cup comeback victory draws a massive television audience

England’s win over DR Congo also attracted one of the BBC’s biggest television audiences of the year. According to the BBC, the July 1 match reached a peak audience of 16.3 million viewers, with an average television audience of 14 million.

The broadcaster also recorded 10.4 million streams across BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app, while its live coverage page received more than 20 million views worldwide, including 14 million in the United Kingdom.

England fell behind after DR Congo scored in the seventh minute before Harry Kane netted twice during the final 15 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory and send the Three Lions into the knockout stage.

The result set up a round of 16 meeting with Mexico at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Monday. The match is scheduled for 1:00 a.m. BST and will be broadcast live on BBC One, radio and the BBC’s digital platforms.

The viral celebration came days after Styles made headlines during his June 26 Wembley concert when he briefly appeared to choke while performing his signature “whale” move during “As It Was.”

Fan videos showed him collapsing to the stage and coughing before he recovered, stood up about 17 seconds later, and finished the show. His Together, Together global residency began in May, following the March release of his latest album, Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally.
