“He just has to be calm,” Stefano Domenicali backs Carlos Sainz despite recent slip-up

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz suffered a quick exit in the 2022 Emilia Romagna GP after the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo collided with the Spaniard in the first lap of the race. The Aussie made a move on Sainz in the first turn and the two went to the gravel. Ricciardo managed to keep going, eventually finishing last, but for Carlos Sainz, the race was over.

Sainz has endured a rough start to the season despite his P2 finish in the 2022 season opener in Bahrain. He has suffered 2 consecutive DNFs and has slipped to 5th in the Driver’s standings. He even crashed during Q2 at the weekend in Imola.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has come out in support of the Spaniard. Domenicali believes Sainz must remain confident and calm and guaranteed he will be performing his best.

Stefano Domenicali on Carlos Sainz: “he will certainly do excellent results”

Stefano Domenicali believes Carlos Sainz was unlucky with the conditions as they were not playing on his side. Sainz had to ultimately pay the price for Ricciardo’s move. But Domenicali believes, Sainz must be calm and he will be back to his best very soon.

Stefano Domenicali said, “Carlos Sainz is a very talented driver, unfortunately with a slippery track, Ricciardo touched him. These, however, are episodes that if you don’t know how to manage them well you get into psychological difficulties that you don’t have to face. He renewed for another two years with his team, so the guarantees are there, he just has to be calm and he will certainly do excellent results.”

Ricciardo even apologised to Sainz after the race. Ferrari will be bringing upgrades to their car ahead of the inaugural Miami GP with Red Bull gaining maximum points from the Imola GP.
