Brandon Aubrey went from hero to villain after just one kick of the ball on Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants. Fans sniffed and stitched conspiracy theories as to why the NFL’s most accurate kicker missed a field goal from a 51-yard distance, which is bread and butter for him.

The Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was in a cheerful mood because Aubrey never missed from the 50-yard + mark in the NFL. Yet there’s always a first time for everything. With scores at 20-15, the former soccer player missed his first field goal from the said distance after converting from 16 consecutive attempts.

Prescott let out an ironic smile in disbelief after the ball sailed wide right of the goalpost. While the miss mattered little in influencing the outcome, there was an uproar for the bettors all over the world who banked on Brandon Aubrey to score.

The Cowboys were favorites to beat the Giants with a -5.5 point differential. A successful Aubrey field goal would have secured a lot of people some serious cash, but it all went down the drain after the miss.

Fans on social media claimed the missed field goal was rigged from the start to make people lose money. The Cowboys may have won, but at what expense?

Some even theorized that the call to miss it came straight from Vegas (the Mecca of gambling). Regardless of whether it’s true or just another football gimmick, no one will ever know.

When he dropped by the Amazon Prime booth for a chat with Richard Sherman and Ryan Fitzpatrick, Prescott was asked to describe his point of view regarding Aubrey’s missed field goal.

His special. He is a great talent, and I think that one was too short for him. You know, he just wanted to give a cinematic end right there. But he is a special, special guy. Every great quarterback has a really really good kicker; you look at the history of it, so I am blessed to have him.

Dak Prescott said

Brandon Aubrey may be up there with Harrison Butker and Justin Tucker as the best in the NFL. The Cowboys will need him in future games.
