Three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell was almost sure that he was going to be a Knick. However, Utah Jazz ended up making a deal with the Cleaveland Cavaliers leading the Jazz star to find a new home in Ohio.
Donovan Mitchell was very hopeful like everyone else that he was going to return to his birthplace. The Utah Jazz star was in place for a trade to another NBA team after staying in Utah for 5 seasons. The Slam Dunk Contest winner has been tremendous for the Jazz.
Who wouldn’t want to have Donovan on their team? Both the Knicks and Jazz were in a deal that would mean Mitchell went back to his home in New York. However, it turns out that the 3x NBA All-Star was then traded to Cleaveland Cavaliers. Mitchell, who gave his all to drag the Jazz to the playoffs is now looking to go further in the tournament to achieve his dream of being a champion.
Recently Donovan sat down for an interview with ESPN’s “NBA Today” to discuss his shocking move to the Cavaliers. Brian Windhorst addresses the elephant in the room and asks Donovan about his saga with the Jazz – Knicks trade.
Donovan Mitchell gives honest answer regarding Knicks rumors
In the interview with ESPN, Donovan gets asked by Brian Windhorst how close the player actually was to joining the New York Knicks and Mitchell answered with a smirk. “Very close,” said the former Jazz star. “I won’t say more than that, but I know a little more than most. Definitely a little close,” added Mitchell to his reply.
Donovan was born in Elmsford, New York, and his dream has been to play for his home team. The player is now only 26 years old and is a very promising player. He now will look to achieve his dream of winning the championship with Cleaveland but there is still a part of him that wishes he was traded to the Knicks instead.
Mitchell in the media scrum after being announced as a Cavalier revealed how he would have loved to live near his mom in New York and play for the Knicks there. Donovan also admitted that he was convinced he was going to be a Knick. Do you think Mitchell to New York would have been a better trade than Cleaveland?
