“I’d send someone to spar him,” Eddie Hearn gives latest update on the $1 million dollar bet against Jake Paul on Serrano vs Taylor fight

“I’d send someone to spar him,” Eddie Hearn gives latest update on the $1 million dollar bet against Jake Paul on Serrano vs Taylor fight

Eddie Hearn- Jake Paul

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn was the lucky man last weekend when his fighter, undefeated women’s undisputed lightweight champion and Olympic champion Katie Taylor won the fight against Amanda Serrano, who was promoted by Youtuber-cum-boxer Jake Paul. Hearn, the chairman of Matchroom Boxing, got himself into a bet against Paul based on who will win the fight between Taylor and Serrano for $1 million. And fortunately, Taylor got the win via split decision.

However, it was later affirmed by Hearn backstage to Paul that betting on your own fighters is illegal in boxing, so the terms of the bet have changed lately but it was not clear what will be the new format. Taylor and Serrano, irrespective of who won, delivered one of the greatest fights in boxing history and the greatest fight in women’s boxing history. This was the first female headliner in combat sports happening in the 143-year history of the Madison Square Garden.

In an on studio interview with MMA Fighting’s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, Hearn talked about his work and future as a promoter, his reaction to Taylor’s win over Serrano, the upcoming event he is promoting between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol and much more. In the midst of all, Hearn gave an update about what happened to the aforementioned bet between him and Jake Paul and if not money, then what is actually involved on line!?

“We didn’t actually finalise anything, but the last thing [we discussed] was – if Katie Taylor lost I’d have to go and spar Jake, and if we won then I’d send someone to spar Jake. We’ll see. Tony Bellew would be a good one,” says Hearn.

So since Hearn’s fighter won, Paul is now supposed to most likely fight former British professional boxer, Tony Bellew as per Hearn’s statement. Bellew is the former WBC cruiserweight champion with 30 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. 20 wins coming by the way of knockouts. How are you going to see that sparring session going? Do you think an actual fight can take place between Paul and Bellew? Who do you think will win if that ever happens?
