Super Bowl champion Vita Vea’s request for a trade has put the league on high alert. Several teams are reportedly interested in his skill set.

Vea’s four-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is slated to end after the 2026 season. Per Spotrac and Mike Garafolo of ESPN, Vea could earn $18 million if he stays in Tampa Bay. The Bucs didn’t add a ‘no-trade clause ‘ in his contract.

Vea can still stay with the Buccaneers, but judging by the news from insiders Greg Auman and Ted Nguyen of The Athletic, the veteran DT would prefer to play elsewhere. Nguyen also heard from someone close to Vea that he intends to play for a Californian club or the Las Vegas Raiders.

Las Vegas Raiders

Let’s start with the obvious team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite investing heavily in defense and All-Pro edge Maxx Crosby sticking around, adding Vea will be a massive cue for a Raiders team that only won three games in 2025.

For now, veteran Adam Butler, who logged 50 tackles and a sack in 15 games last year, is the favorite to start at DT. However, Vea would definitely be an upgrade at that spot.

According to Spotrac, the Raiders have $14 million in cap space, so they need to siphon some money before going all in for Vea. The Raiders also have an ACE up their sleeve. General manager John Spytek worked with Vea when he was part of the Bucs front office.

San Francisco 49ers

With their terrible injury history, the San Francisco 49ers should add as many players as possible. They are loaded on defense with proven players like Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, and Osa Odighizuwa making their presence felt.

Adding Vita Vea to that lineup will instantly make the 49ers one of the strongest defenses in the NFC. The 49ers have the most cap space of any team in the NFL at present ($71 million). So, if the Niners can move quickly, they may end up with their second Bucs player on the team after wide receiver Mike Evans.

New York Giants

The New York Giants are one of the teams that are trending upward. After the appointment of veteran John Harbaugh as the new head coach, many players are viewing the Big Apple franchise as an exciting place to play football.

The Giants’ offense is surprisingly good, with Jaxson Dart at quarterback and Malik Nabers as the leading WR. Cam Skattebo at RB is among the most exciting players in the league. Moreover, Odell Beckham Jr. adds a presence.

However, the defense is a different story. Despite boasting underrated players like Tremaine Edmunds, Brian Burns and Darius Alexander, the Giants were one of the leakiest defenses last season.

Edge Abdul Carter has all the qualities of emerging as a star, while rookie Arvell Reese has the highest ceiling of anyone in that room.

With Dexter Lawrence signing with the Bengals in the offseason, the Giants have an opening at the nose tackle spot. If the Giants go all out and trade for Vea, that defensive line will be among the best in the NFC.

But a word of caution for the teams interested in Vea. They have to cough up a generous bounty to acquire the Super Bowl winner. ESPN’s Benjamin Solak spoke with an insider who gave a grim update on the trade. Per the insider, the Dexter Lawrence trade could complicate the Vea situation.

I texted an executive the second the news broke and said, ‘If you were building a trade package, what would you do?’ He said I don’t know a second and a fifth, but it’s going to be hard because that [Dexter] Lawrence package really sets the floor for Vea trade value.

Solak said on Monday

The Bengals parted ways with a 2026 first-round draft pick (10th overall) to the Giants for Lawrence. Vea going for a second and fifth would not quite equal that value. Vea has accumulated a total of 17 sacks, three more than Lawrence in the last three seasons.
