“Tell them to pay me my money!” ‘Infuriated’ Klay Thompson’s elevator conversation REVEALED by Richard Jefferson
Klay Thompson left the Warriors after 13 years due to contract disagreements.
Richard Jefferson shared Klay Thompson's frustration with the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors’ historic dynasty is over as Klay Thompson is leaving the team to join the Dallas Mavericks. For the first time in his career of 13 years, Thompson will play for a different team. Hence, the decision was certainly not an easy one. As the Warriors and Thompson were struggling with his contract former player Richard Jefferson revealed a story about his conversation with Thompson.
It was widely known that Klay Thompson was not happy with the deal the Warriors were offering him. However, the star was also frustrated with the conversations and discussions about the negotiations. On ESPN’s NBA Today, Richard Jefferson revealed that upset about the situation during the Christmas game.
This is on Christmas Day of this past year. I get off the elevator and I see Klay I'm like, 'Klay, what's up? Hey man, keep your mentals right.' He's like, 'Man, tell 'em to pay me my money.'Richard Jefferson said
Jefferson sided with Thompson as he was furious about the discussions happening around Christmas day. RJ called out the Warriors for disrespecting Thompson who won four championships for the team. RJ stated that Thompson ‘has the right to be mad’ as he was also an essential contributor to the team’s success along with Stephen Curry.
Jefferson is correct in the sense that Thompson deserved more respect from the franchise. It was also reported that the organization did not contact the guard two weeks before free agency. Keeping the money aside, the team’s lack of effort to re-sign Thompson may have played a part in the star’s decision.
Jeff Teague talked about the Warriors’ unfair offer to Paul George over Klay Thompson
During the process of the Warriors offering a huge deal to Paul George, many have shown support to Thompson. Considering the five-time All-Star’s tenure, Thompson has gained a lot of respect which made former champion Jeff Teague speak for the star.
The Warriors were not willing to pay the money Thompson wanted in the extension. However, the organization offered a max contract to George, which did not sit well with Teague. The former player discussed the topic on his Club 520 podcast as he talked about what Thompson must have felt after hearing George’s four-year deal.
How would you feel if you were Klay Thompson though? ‘All the work I put in, my career is better than his. I done all this in Golden State and y’all gonna offer him a four-year max and y’all don’t even wanna talk to me about what I want?Jeff Teague said
Teague admitted that George is currently a better player but Thompson had a better career with the Warriors. Despite being drafted a year before Thompson, George has not found any success with championships. Hence, considering Thompson’s incredible resume, former players like Jefferson and Teague are siding with the champion.
