Riding on the blistering innings of Sanju Samson, Steve Smith and Jofra Archer, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rajasthan-based franchise had set a massive total of 217 runs.

Chasing a target of 217 was too huge a mountain to climb for CSK. And the team couldn’t surpass Rajasthan Royals’ target despite the presence of one of the greatest finisher of all time, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After Steve Smith’s master class against CSK, the RR skipper took to nets at the training session and was seen swinging his bat just like Dhoni does. The ‘helicopter shot’, as it is now popularly called, was introduced to the world by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and many batsman seems to have followed suit.

The Rajasthan Royals’ twitter account posted a clip of Smith playing the shot with a caption: “Gotta love a captain who plays the helicopter shot.”

Players like Hardik Pandya is also known to have picked it up from Dhoni and has often seen emulating it in IPL and international cricket.
