IPL 2020: ‘Am confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021,’ says CSK CEO Viswanathan

Chennai Super Kings had their worst season during the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). With just four wins in 12 matches, the Chennai-based franchise occupies the last spot at the Points Table. They have two games left to play, and even if they win both of them, CSK won’t qualify for the playoffs. Moreover, this will be the first time in IPL history when Chennai did not enter the knockouts of the tournament.
Keeping the faith in skipper MS Dhoni’s abilities, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has declared that he will continue leading the side in IPL 2021 as well. In a recent interview with The Times of India, he said that they don’t need to change everything after one not-so-good year.

“Yes, definitely. I am very confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021. He has won three titles for us in the IPL. This is the first year we have not qualified for the playoffs. No other team has done that. One bad year does not mean we will have to change everything,” Viswanathan said to TOI.
Lost games that we should have won: CEO
Viswanathan also went on to say that CSK lost several matches in this season that they should have comfortably won. Moreover, the exclusions of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh also hurt them badly.
“We didn’t play to our potential this season. We lost games that we should have won. That pushed us back. The withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh coupled with COVID cases in the camp meant that the balance of the side was upset,” he was quoted by TOI.
Chennai Super Kings will now lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab as their remaining two matches of IPL 2020.
