IPL 2020: Andre Russell’s disappointing performances with the bat continue
Andre Russell during IPL 2020
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell is among the most feared batsmen in world cricket. The West Indian is known for decimating bowling attacks with his brute power. In last year’s Indian Premier League, Russell was in the form of his life. He was hitting sixes for fun. His performances helped KKR win more than a few matches.
In this year’s IPL however, Russell has looked woefully out of touch. He hasn’t got going in any of the matches in which he has batted. The opposition bowlers and captains have executed their well-made plans against him. However, Russell is someone who is known for throwing plans out the window. This has not been the case this year. The burly West Indian hasn’t crossed 25 even once this season.
Russell holes out to deep midwicket against SRH
In KKR’s match today against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Russell came into bat at No. 4. He started off cautiously before hitting a boundary. He then tried to slog against Rashid Khan with little success. In the following over bowled by T Natarajan, Russell middle the ball looking to clear deep mid-wicket but could only hole out to Vijay Shankar at deep-midwicket.
Russell’s scores in the IPL now read 11(11), 24(14), 13(8), 2(4), 5(3), 16(10), 12(9) and 9(11). His form is now a huge cause for concern for KKR. As KKR get ready to push for the 4th spot on the points table, they will want Russell to get back to form sooner rather than later.
