Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have endured what has been their most difficult season in history. One of the most consistent sides in the tournament, CSK have never failed to reach the playoffs of the Indian Premier League. However, they are staring at the prospect of missing out on the playoffs this year as they have a mere 3 wins out of 11 matches.

CSK’s famed approach of batting slowly at the start and in the middle before attacking at the death has not paid dividends this time around. Their batting line-up hasn’t come together and has struggled to show intent. While their bowling hasn’t been too problematic, they haven’t had a bowler to rely on in adversity. Their fielding has been largely subpar as well with the exception of a few players.

Skipper MS Dhoni has been a mere shadow of his former self. His tactical decisions or his showings with the bat haven’t been up to the high standards he has set for himself. CSK will now have to rebuild ahead of the next season by revamping their team at the auction.

‘CSK fans understand cricket’ – MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni sent a message to all CSK fans in a video posted by the official Twitter handle of Chennai Super Kings. “Well the CSK fans have been great. I always say they are amongst the fan who understand their cricket. They are slightly different in that. Also the fact when you go through a rough patch, the fans sticking to you are true fans. Yes its not like they will not be disappointed. It’s not like they won’t criticise you but it’s constructive criticism that really matters,” MS Dhoni said

Dhoni further said that CSK was blessed to have such ardent and understanding fans. “I feel we are blessed to we have the kind of fans which we really want to have. Yes, they want us to be at top throughout, yes they want us to keep doing well but when you are competing against the the top 7-8 teams it’s not always guaranteed thing that you will always win or always do well. At times you are not at your best, at times the conditions are not favoring you,” Dhoni added.

“In the game of cricket we also seen that at times luck also matters. So there will be times when the results won’t go your way and and that’s the time when we come back to the drawing board and focus more on the process and that’s were the fans also come in.

“That’s the time when the team needs real support of the fans and I believe that’s what the fans have showed. Irrespective of the result they are always with us. Irrespective of where we are playing, whom we are playing against, they have always been there. So, that’s the good thing of having real fans, really understand the game of cricket and they are always there for you as a team,” Dhoni further said.
