An underfire Delhi Capitals face in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier today. It will be a test of character for the young DC side as they look to pull their act together and book a spot in the final. Delhi had a fairy tale start in the first half of Indian Premier League 2020 but a string of loses towards the business end of the league has derailed their campaign.
The Shreyas Iyer led side snapped out of a four-game losing streak to clinch a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore and secure the second spot on the points table. But they failed to ride on the momentum as Mumbai Indians crushed them in the first qualifier by 57 runs.
Individual brilliance Delhi’s only hope

Former India opener Krish Srikkanth feels that “individual brilliance” from Shikhar Dhawan and Ravichandran Ashwin are DC’s only hope of making it to the final. Srikkanth points out that Ashwin will need to break through SRH’s top order, which is wobbly in Wriddhiman Saha’s absence if DC were to give themselves a fighting chance in the game.
“Individual brilliance can fling any prediction through the window in this format. Delhi will only be hoping for Dhawan to have a fun-filled day and Ashwin to come good with the ball, especially during powerplay,” Srikkanth wrote in his TOI column.
“In (Kagiso) Rabada and (Anrich) Nortje, Delhi have two new-ball merchants who have picked wickets, but not necessarily in the first six overs. This is where the contribution of Ashwin is vital,” he wrote.
Bring in Shimron Hetmyer

The 1983 Wolrd Cup winner suggests that the Delhi team management should get Windies hitter Shimron Hetmyer into the side to bolster their middle order. With Prithvi Shaw struggling at the top, Hetmyer will prove crucial with his unique hitting abilities. Moreover, Daniel Sams hasn’t been able to replicate his Big Bash League form in his maiden IPL season and it is only sensible for him to make way for a proven match-winner.
“If I were to pick Delhi’s XI, I would definitely bring in (Shimron) Hetmyer to boost the middle order. The think-tank has to identify an Indian option for seamer (Daniel) Sams in order to give the side a better chance of upstaging a side that is on a roll.“
