David Warner celebrated his 34th birthday in style with a vintage knock of 66 runs versus Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper is one of the most consistent players in the Indian Premier League. The knock against DC reminded us of the old shades of the Australian Opening batsman.

Warner opened the SRH innings along with Wriddhiman Saha and the duo made the best powerplay score in IPL 2020. In the six overs of the powerplay, they added 77 runs without the loss of any wicket. They went on to make 107 runs before Warner falling for 66 runs.

Warner showed a glimpse of his explosive nature in his 66 runs innings in which he required just 34 balls. He hit 8 fours and 2 sixes with a strike rate of 194.12. Ever since Warner was given the responsibility of leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has been playing mature knocks without taking any risks. However, this time he played freely and even risks while going for the big hits every now and then.

Warner nearly takes wicket on his first ball in IPL history

An amazing moment in the match took place when Warner stepped onto bowl for the first time in his IPL career. He came to complete the over of Vijay Shankar who left the ground limping. Warner took the ball and decided to ball the remaining one ball of the over. He started with a wide ball but subsequently bowled his only legal bowl in the history of IPL.

Warner lofted the ball towards Rishabh Pant who hit straight back towards the bowler. The ball was in the air for a few moments as Warner dived and tried to catch the ball but to no avail as it ran towards long-on.

This is the very ball bowled by Warner in the IPL and that too on his 34th birthday.  He is known more as a batsman rather than his bowling talent. Warner is one of the only five players in IPL to score more than 5000 plus runs. He has so far scored 5142 runs with a strike rate of 141.69. In the process, he has managed to score 4 centuries and 47 half-centuries the latest one on his 34th birthday. He also holds the record for the most orange caps in the tournament with 3 which he won in the years 2015,2017, and 2019.
