Delhi Capitals (DC) opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan‘s maiden IPL ton and Axar Patel‘s last over heroics powered DC to a 5 wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Sharjah witnessed yet another nail-biting run-chase in IPL 2020 with CSK fighting for the victory until the last over. However, it was DC who came out on top with their 7th win of the tournament.

CSK winning the toss opted to bat first and posted a competitive score of 179/4. Thanks to Ravindra Jadeja‘s flurry of sixes in the death overs before Faf du Plessis half-century helped CSK in arriving at the score.

Delhi Capitals start to the chase was not good as Prithvi Shaw lost his wicket once again cheaply in the first over to Deepak Chahar. However, Shikhar Dhawan had his mind clear and played a historic knock for the team after being dropped by CSK fielders four times. Dhawan remained on 102 unbeaten after the match and was adjudged the man of the match for his performance.

Sam Curran bowling he penultimate over nearly pulled a win for his side after only conceding four runs and a wicket. With 17 runs required in the final over, Dhoni had to turn to Ravindra Jadeja to bowl the final over as Dwayne Bravo not fully fit. Axar Patel smashed 21 runs from the five balls he faced and hit 3 sixes to lead DC to a 5 wicket victory.

CSK winning the toss opted to bat first and went for the same combination of Faf Du Plesis and Sam Curran to open the innings after previous match heroics by Curran. However, things turned out to be different this time as Curran could not even open his account. He was dismissed on the third ball of the first over by Tushar Deshpande.

The CSK duo of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis made another well-made 50-run partnership. Watson lost his wicket to Nortje in the 12th over after scoring 36 runs. Du Plessis fell soon afterward to Kagiso Rabada and made 57 runs for CSK with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

MS Dhoni tried to play aggressive shots and lost his wicket. Rayudu played his part by scoring 45 runs for CSK. Ravindra Jadeja’s fireworks in the final overs meant CSK finish with 179/4. Jadeja made 33 from just 13 balls with four sixes.

For CSK the race to playoffs look a challenging task having won just three matches out of nine played so far. On the other hand, DC are very close to becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2020. DC also overtake MI to top the points table with 14 points in 9 games played so far.
