IPL 2020 DC vs RCB: Dhawan, Rahane’s half-centuries secure second-place finish for DC as RCB also qualify with a better net run rate
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets to book a place in the first qualifier of Dream11 IPL 2020. DC grabbed the second spot in the points table with 16 points in the tournament. RCB on the other hand, even after losing the match have qualified for the playoffs with 14 points in the tournament.
It was a total performance by the DC team who dominated RCB in the game. The toss was won by Shreyas Iyer of DC who allowed RCB to bat first. Josh Philippe and Devdutt Padikkal started well for RCB but Rabada striked in his first over with the wicket of Phillipe. Virat Kohli joined young Padikkal and the pair added a 50 run partnership for RCB. Padikkal went on to score his fourth fifty in IPL 2020.
Ravichandran Ashwin for the first time in his IPL career took the wicket of Virat Kohli who couldn’t time his shot and was caught near the ropes. Kohli made 29 from 24 balls while Padikkal made 50 from 41 balls after clean bowled by Anrich Nortje in the 16th over. Chris Morris was promoted on top to finish the innings but he got out for a second-ball duck. Later on, Ab de Villiers and Shivan Dube made the necessary runs for RCB to take them to 152/7 after 20 overs. ABD made 35 from 21 balls and was run out in the last over. Dube added 17 runs from 11 balls.

Qualifcation scenario for IPL 2020
The massive task of reducing RCB batting to around 150 runs was done by DC bowlers. Anrich Nortje impressed with his bowling and took 3 for 33 in his four overs. Kagiso Rabada regained his purple cap with two wickets in the match. Ashwin took one wicket for 18 runs in his four overs.
The scenario was intriguing after the first innings of RCB as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chances were struck with this game’s result. DC required to make at least 133 runs to qualify for the playoffs. While RCB needed to survive 17.3 overs in the run-chase to overcome KKR’s net run rate.
Kolkata Knight Riders needed DC to win the game within 17.3 overs to get the edge over RCB. They could have also qualified if RCB would’ve defeated DC by at least 19 runs.
Even though both the chances of the game went in favor of DC and RCB, KKR still have a chance to qualify in the tournament. They need Mumbai Indians to win the game which will result in SRH getting knocked out of the tournament.
Dhawan – Rahane’s fifties help DC chase target with ease
DC batting have made good contributions for the side throughout the tournament. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw opened the innings for DC and Ajinkya Rahane moved down to number three. Shaw’s poor run in IPL 2020 continued with his 6th score of fewer than 10 runs. He made 9 runs after being bowled by a beautiful ball by Mohammad Siraj.
However, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan played calculative shots in between and stabilized the run-chase. The duo added a fifty run partnership and also brought up their respective half-centuries. The partnership was broken by Shabaz Ahmed who dismissed Dhawan for 54 from 41 balls. DC skipper also threw his wicket away after going for the big hit in the 17th over.
Rahane’s first fifty in IPL 2020 came in the most vital match for DC who needed the win to qualify for the playoffs. Rahane made 60 runs from 46 balls with 5 boundaries and one six. He got out in the 18th over by Washington Sundar. However, the damage was done and RCB couldn’t stop DC as they won the game by 6 wickets.
DC have ended group stages with a second-place finish by winning 8 games and losing 6. They will play Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier at Dubai international stadium. RCB remain in the third spot of the points table and have won 7 as well as lost 7. Sunrisers Hyderabad will play Mumbai Indians in the final game of the IPL 2020 group stage which will determine either KKR or SRH for the final spot in the qualifiers.
