Delhi Capitals thumped Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs to register their 5th win of the season in Match 23 of IPL 2020 and move to the top of the points table.

Delhi Capitals became the first team to score less than 200 runs in the first innings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the Indian Premier League 2020 after they faced Rajasthan Royals in Match 23 on Friday.

They also became the first team to successfully defend a total below 200 at Sharjah in IPL 2020.

Delhi Posted 184-6 in their 20 overs on the back of a wonderful knock played by Shimron Hetymer (45) and Marcus Stoinis (39). RR on their chase lost Jos Buttler early to Ravichandran Ashwin after a year of the mankading incident.

With this win, DC climbed up to the top of the table with 5 wins out of 6 matches they played.

Earlier, RR Captain Steve Smith won the toss and put DC into bat first. Delhi Capitals had the worst start as Jofra Archer dismissed both their openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw cheaply.

A rocket throw of Yashasvi Jaiswal then sent DC Captain Shreyas Iyer(22) back to the pavilion in the fifth over to send them reeling at 50-3 at the end of the powerplay.

Another run-out occurred in the form of Rishabh Pant in the 10th over to left Delhi tottering at 79-4. Stoinis then hit a couple of blows into the stand and formed a partnership with Hetymer but dismissed on 39 by Rahul Tewatia.

Hetymer made up for his chance and took Delhi Capitals to 184-4 before Axar Patel played a small cameo of 17 runs off 8 balls.

Ravi Ashwin dismissed Buttler early and made pressure on young Yashasvi and Steven Smith by his class. Brilliant captaincy by Shreyas Iyer also helped DC to mount pressure on RR batsman as they were very slow in their starting overs.

The string of low scores continued for Sanju Samson who was again dismissed cheaply, only scoring 5 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal stayed up to the 13th over but took 36 balls to score 34 runs after being bowled by Stoinis and that didn’t help the cause. In the end Rajasthan were all out for 138-10, felling short by 46 runs.

Shimron Hetymer shines with the bat

Shimron Hetymer

Shimron Hetymer was instrumental in his innings as he scored 45 runs in 24 balls. Hetymer who didn’t get many opportunities to turn up for DC was brilliant in his approach.

This was the ideal situation and perfect chance for Hetymer to showcase his talent and he did make up for his chances.

Hetymer didn’t had a nice start to his IPL career when he played for RCB last year. He scored 3 consecutive ducks in the first 3 matched that he played. He moved to DC after the Capitals purchased him for 4.8 crores.

Jofra Archer blew DC top order

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer was also excellent as usual as he returned with the figures 3-24 in his four overs.

He picked up 2 important wickets in the powerful for the men in pink removing both Dhawan and Shaw. He picked Harshal Patel in his last over.

With this loss, RR has lost 4 matches in a row in the 6 matches they played so far while Delhi Capitals move to the top of the points table with 10 points to their name.
