Mumbai Indians registered a thumping victory over Delhi Capitals in the finals of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. With this win, Rohit Sharma’s men lifted their fifth title of the tournament history, most by any side. Trent Boult won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his scintillating spell of 4-0-30-3.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma looked calm and composed even after adding another feather in his cap. The winning captain lauded the performance of his teammates during the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Pretty happy with how things went the entire season for us. We said at the start we want to make winning a habit, and you couldn’t have asked any more from the guys. We were right on the money from ball one, and even until today, we never looked back. A lot of credit goes to people behind the scenes as well,” said Rohit Sharma.

“We gotta give a lot of credit. Our work starts much earlier than the IPL starts. We analyse what went wrong, what needs to be improved, stuff like that. You’ve got to find the right balance where you need to stay calm [as a leader]. I’m not someone who’ll run with a stick behind someone. The only way you can do it is by giving them confidence,” he added.

‘We needed Jayant tactically’

Mumbai Indians made a surprising change in their playing XI at the time of toss as Jayant Yadav came in the side for Rahul Chahar. This move paid off as Yadav took the crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan inside the powerplay. Rohit Sharma said that it was part of their strategy to play the off-break bowler against DC.

“Chahar was unfortunate, we needed Jayant tactically. When you want to change your XI to make it better, you should be able to do that [without letting someone down hard].”

“We try to engage without fans, unfortunately, they couldn’t be here, but their support means a lot. Fans are who make the game special for us. Missed playing in Wankhede,” Sharma signed off.
