IPL 2020: Here’s the full list of award winners in IPL 2020 season

After 60 matches and more than one and a half-months of cricketing action, the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end yesterday. The final match was played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The match saw the former emerge as comprehensive winners. With the win, MI clinched their 5th IPL title which is more than any other team has ever done.

Despite the various uncertainties surrounding the IPL this year with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, lack of crowds and the venue being shifted to the UAE, the IPL turned out to be a successful one.

As is the case with every IPL, various awards were given to the best performers throughout this season. Here is the full list of award winners:

Emerging Player of the Year – Devdutt Padikkal (RCB)

Young Devdutt Padikkal who was creating waves in the domestic circuit announced himself to the word with his assured performances in this year’s IPL. The 21-year-old scored a whopping 473 runs in his debut season. Speaking after his award win, Padikkal said, “It’s a really great achievement for me and gives me great confidence for whatever lies ahead.

Gamechanger of the Season – KL Rahul (KXIP)

KL Rahul was in scintillating touch throughout the course of this IPL and turned around games on his own many a time for his side. He deservedly walked home with the Gamechanger of the Season award.

Super Striker of the Season – Kieron Pollard (MI)

Kieron Pollard played a crucial role in MI’s title triumph by providing his side with blazing finishes in their innings. The West Indian’s strike-rate in the death overs was higher than anybody else in the tournament which earned him this award.

Most sixes – Ishan Kishan (MI)

Young Ishan Kishan had a season to remember for MI as he emerged as his side’s leading run-scorer in their victorious campaign. Kishan hit a whopping amount of 30 sixes through the course of the tournament despite missing a few matches through injury.

Powerplayer of the Season – Trent Boult (MI)

Trent Boult delivered for Mumbai Indians whenever called upon by picking up wicket after wicket in the Powerplay. It was thus, no wonder that he walked home with this award, which is given for best performances in the Powerplay.

Purple Cap – Kagiso Rabada (DC)

Delhi Capitals’ Kagiso Rabada had something to cheer about despite his side’s loss in the final as he walked home with the Purple Cap which is awarded for the most wickets in the tournament. The South African picked up 30 wickets in the tournament.

Orange Cap – KL Rahul

Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul walked home with the Orange Cap, something which he had been holding right from the beginning thanks to his blazing start in the tournament. Rahul scored 670 runs in the tournament from just 14 matches. Speaking after receiving the award, Rahul said, “A big thank you to all the supporters. Winning the orange cap feels nice, but it would’ve been nicer if we had gone further in the tournament. However I got to learn a lot about being a leader this tournament.”

Jofra Archer – Most Valuable Player

Rajasthan Royals’ pace bowler Jofra Archer earned the title of the Most Valuable Player for his all-round performances in the IPL. The Englishman picked up 20 wickets, bowled 175 dots, held 5 catches and hit 10 sixes in this year’s IPL. Speaking after receiving the award, Archer said, “Really grateful to receive the award. It didn’t go as well for the team, and hopefully this has shown what I can do and I hope it helps the team a little more later.”
