Dhawan is currently second top run scorer in IPL 2020, having scored 471 runs in 11 matches. He is behind KL Rahul in the contention of the coveted orange cap.

First thing, the record itself is a huge achievement! No other Indian has done it. In fact, no other player has done it in IPL. Two back-to-back hundreds, that too in T20 format,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir further went on to explain why the timing of Dhawan’s brilliant performance would benefit Delhi Capitals.

The more important thing about these two centuries, is the timing, the time at which they have come, when the Delhi Capitals need to peak. If your most experienced batsman peaks at this moment and is in his best form, then it is an advantage for DC,” he further said.

Shikhar Dhawan brings about a changeover for Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals are currently second in the rankings table with 14 points. However after the first few games, the team found themselves in a sticky spot with key players such as Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma and then Rishabh Pant being injured. Their reliable openers, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane seemed to be struggling as well.

But Shikhar Dhawan by accelerating early in the innings and maintaining a consistent strike rate, brought about a complete transformation for Delhi Capitals. His recent centuries have brought the team back on it’s track.

With such a continued tremendous performance from Dhawan, even Gautam Gambhir is sure Delhi Capitals would have no problem in qualifying for the Playoffs. The Delhi Capitals will next face the Sunrisers Hyderabad on October 27th.
