IPL 2020: ‘It’s a selfless decision’ – Eoin Morgan praises Dinesh Karthik for putting the team first
Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik
Newly appointed Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has praised Dinesh Karthik’s selfless decision of stepping down from captaincy to focus on his batting and delivering for the team. KKR had announced today that Karthik had decided to step down as captain.
There were lingering doubts regarding Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy in the initial part of this year’s Indian Premier League. However, Karthik bounced back and came good with his captaincy and batsman-ship in the matches against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. Despite his return to form as a captain and batsman, he expressed his desire to step down and hand over the captaincy to Morgan.
Now Morgan has come forward and heaped praise on the wicket-keeper batsman. He said, “DK informed yesterday that he would like to step back and focus on his batting as he feels that’s the best option for the team. It’s incredibly selfless and it also shows a lot of courage from him to do that, putting the team first ahead of him being skipper.”
KKR bat first, Chris Green makes debut
KKR face Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi today in what is a crucial game for the latter with three teams breathing down their neck. Following Sunil Narine being reported for suspect action, KKR went with Tom Banton in the previous game. But following his failure, they’ve decided to hand a debut to Australian all-rounder Chris Green. Green has been an impressive performer for Sydney Thunder at the Big Bash.
KKR’s other change was Shivam Mavi instead of Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Mumbai meanwhile have brought in Nathan Coulter-Nile instead of James Pattinson despite the latter helping the side a great deal by chipping in with crucial wickets in the first half of the tournament.
