Nicholas Pooran smashed the fastest fifty for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL 2020. But it was in vain as KXIP felt 69 runs short in chasing the 202 target set by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rashid Khan turned up once again for SRH who picked 3 important wickets and help restrict KXIP for 132 runs.
David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first. SRH openers Warner and Jonny Bairstow made the best start of IPL 2020 so far and smashed a 160 run partnership for SRH. Bairstow top-scored the innings and made 97 runs in 55 balls hitting 6 sixes and 7 fours. Warner and Bairstow both were dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in a single over. Warner made 52 runs off 40 balls.
Kane Williamson provided the finisher’s role for SRH this time and scored 20 runs in 10 balls to take SRH to 201/6 in 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi bowled his best spell in IPL with 3/29 in four overs. Arshdeep Singh also picked two wickets for 33 runs.
SRH have now won 3 and lost 3 in the tournament while KXIP unfortunately have lost 5 games and one victory in 6 matches played in IPL 2020.
Pooran smashes fastest fifty in IPL 2020
Chasing 202 runs, KXIP start was not good and the team lost Mayank Agarwal in the second over. Newcomer Simron Singh could not make his mark in the game and got out for 9 runs in the fifth over. Skipper KL Rahul got out in the 7th over and KXIP were reduced to 58/3.
However, Nicholas Pooran stepped up and raced towards his maiden IPL fifty in his career. Pooran smashed the half-century in just 17 balls which is the fastest half-century in IPL 2020. Pooran tried the scorecard ticking as wickets fell for KXIP on the other end. Rashid Khan dismissed Pooran in the 15th over and the run-chase looked impossible for KXIP.
Khaleel Ahmed and T Natrajan picked two wickets for 24 runs each while Rashid Khan was the best bowler in the game picking up three wickets for 12 runs. Rashid also bowled a maiden over in the match.
